Some Great Wild Swimming Holes

Lathkill Dale/Monyash

OS Grid SK1765. Just a hop skip and a jump from the door of the Yurts this swimming hole is a must on a hot day. Take the Penine way from Knotlow to Monyash, walk through the village and on the left hand side see the footpath that dips down into the valley, this path will take you along Lathkill Dale up to Youlegrave, along the way are many spots to take a dip, but the main swimming area is around the Conksbury Bridge. Some say this is the cleanest river in England. It’s source is a cave at the top of this limestone valley. The water is absolutely clear. Instead of walking you can park at the bridge grid ref above on Shutts Lane then walk up river.

Calver Bridge

OS Grid SK2474. Park up on the road by the school, or pub you can access the river on both banks, downstream of the bridge. The southern bank catches the afternoon and evening sun. You can jump off the bridge if you dare, its deep enough or you can swim upstream quite far and then back down to Grindleford.

Hathersage Outdoor Pool

OS Grid SK2381. If your not sure about wild swimming, but still want to swim outside then Hathersage has an outdoor pool that has just been newly refurbished.
