Inspired by a passion for the outdoors and outdoor living, we set out to change the way people camp in the UK. In 2008 we set up Long Valley Yurts with just two 18ft Yurts at a beautiful campsite in the stunning Great Langdale valley, the heart of the Lake District National Park.
Not only is it a truly stunning and wild location but it also conveniently provided us with a name for our endeavour with ‘Great Langdale’ being the Norse for Long Valley.
So, armed with two 18ft Yurts, a name and not much else we set out on our own journey of discovery…. and what a fantastic journey it has been so far.
Moving forward fourteen years, we have now considerably expanded and are proud to offer Yurt holidays at four spectacular locations in the Lake District. Some of our sites now also have glorious Scandinavian wood fire hot tubs and with more exciting additions planned for the future there is a lot to look forward to.
Having helped pioneer this type of holiday experience we have now been joined by hundreds of other companies offering all manner of weird and wonderful types of accommodation. It has also led to the birth of a new word for the English dictionary with ‘Glamping’ being the byword for those seeking a ‘Glamorous Camping’ holiday.
We are still passionate about the outdoors and outdoor living. We continue to camp and revel in all its glorious forms and remain convinced of its power to bring people closer, build lasting memories and to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life. We hope you will too.
